Ben Curtis ends PGA Tour drought

His victory Sunday in the Texas Open didn’t come easy. Neither did his words describing the redemption of nearly a decade spent falling from British Open champion to, this year, waiting by the phone simply for a chance to play.Holding off Matt Every and John Huh in a tense back-nine finish, Curtis finished
with flourish by holing a 12-footer for birdie on the par-5 18th, sealing a two-stroke victory and his fourth PGA Tour title. His even-par 72 put him at 9 under and triggered a wave of emotions that Curtis said he didn’t know were in him.

Curtis won $1,116,000 and a two-year tour exemption — a more meaningful reward after being relegated to a status so low that this victory came in just the fourth PGA Tour event he managed to get into this year.

“You think you’re just staying positive and not worried about it, but I think deep down, you realize all the hard work you put in that, you know, finally paid off,” Curtis said.

It was 2003 when Curtis kissed the Claret Jug at Royal St. George’s with a square jawline and closely cropped black hair. This time, he was handed a pair of cowboy boots, smiling with a rounder face and a better appreciation of the journey.

“When you come out here and win one, well, if I win one every year I have a great career. That would be true,” Curtis said. “But, you know, to get to three, four, five wins — you’re a solid player. I just feel like you get yourself into contention and just have that belief, and anything can happen.”

Every had a 71 and lost a chance at his first tour win with a shaky putter. Huh roared back with a 69, but the Mayakoba Classic winner fell just short of completing what would have been a remarkable comeback.

Huh nearly withdrew Thursday when he plunged to 5 over through only his first three holes and finished with a 77. But he rebounded with rounds of 68 and 67 to give Curtis and Every another player to worry about Sunday.

“I didn’t really expect too much, final round,” Huh said.

While Huh’s first round was ultimately too big of a hole to overcome, Every couldn’t close the deal after starting the tournament with a course-record 63. Four blown putts from 9 feet or closer — including a 6-footer for birdie — kept Every a stroke back until Curtis birdied No. 18.

The comment of most golf fans to Titleist 712 CB

Titleist are generally known now due to the Pro V1 golf ball. This is the number one ball on the PGA tour and most players use it. The ball was an instant hit and is now one of the most popular golf balls of all time. Other balls which they have made are NXT Tour and NXT Extreme.Titleist also make the pinnacle brand of distance golf balls. Now, I will brief under the TITLEIST CB 712 IRONS, to talk about its performance.I hope you it have a deeper understanding, a more comprehensive understanding.
The Titleist 712 CB irons are crafted for serious golfers and feature a slightly wider sole than the 712 MBs helping players that are more aggressive through the turf at impact.
A new satin-chrome finish reduces glare and accentuates the toe and top-line profile for easier alignment. The shallow cavity, muscle design on the Titleist 712 CB irons has been optimised behind the impact area to improve feel and a rounder profile, and soft top-line provide a classic but improved contemporary look. The improved weighting also produces consistent launch angles, backspin and ball speed in order to provide precise distance and shot control demanded by better players. The Titleist 712 CB set also provides increased inertia, forgiveness and a slightly higher ball flight compared with the 712 MBs.

The Titleist CB 712 irons replace the 710 model of the same name and given that it is was so successful, there are not any major changes. The biggest visual change is the chrome satin finish which we think looks great. The sole is a little wider and the trailing edge on the back of the head has a little camber on it, both of which make it a little more playable.Compared to the Titleist MB irons the CB irons have a larger head, top line and a little more offset to give you a bit more forgiveness and a slightly higher flight, although it is still pretty good in the big scheme of things. However don’t think these are game improvement clubs as they are not. The Titleist CB 712 irons are still very much for single figure handicappers who like a more traditional looking forged iron but want a little more margin for error. You get great feel and feedback and shaping shots is very easy right through the set.

The Titleist CB iron is the most popular Titleist model on the European Tour and we are not surprised, with a lot of players blending the CB’s in the some MB short irons or Titleist AP2 long irons.

If you are a golf-loving people, you should choose your golf, do not know my suggestion to you to help you, make you find your club

American to design 2016 Olympic golf course

Organisers picked Hanse Golf Design over seven other finalists. Hanse will team up with Hall of Fame player Amy Alcott to build the first Olympic golf course since the sport was dropped following the 1904 St Louis Games.

“I’m still a little bit stunned by the whole thing,” Hanse told The Associated Press by phone from Miami. “We are obviously very honoured, very humbled by the selection. It was a thrill just to be in the competition with these great designers. I’m excited that the selection panel felt that our efforts were the ones that best matched the criteria set by organizers.

“It’s an amazing honour, but obviously there is a lot of responsibility that comes with it. We are excited to take on the challenge, ready to do a great job for Rio. We are proud to be able to build the golf course which will perhaps host the most important competition in golf in a long time.”

The Rio 2016 committee said Hanse Golf Design was “the candidate that most aptly met the selection criteria” issued by organizers, proposing a strong legacy component that prioritised a golf academy to help the sport’s development in Brazil.

After the 2016 Games, the course will be used as a public facility.

The course will be built at the Reserva de Marapendi in Barra, about 3 miles (5 kilometres) from the athletes’ village and 4.3 miles (7 kilometres) from the main press centre and the international broadcast centre.

The designers made their final presentations to organisers last month and the winner was chosen by a selection committee comprised of Nuzman, Dawson and other local games’ representatives.

The winner was expected to be announced last December, but the deadline for proposals was extended because none of the bidders initially had the proper legal and financial documentation. The announcement was then set for last month, but the local committee delayed it so the winner could be revealed during the IOC visit.

Featuring both an undercut cavity and Grain Flow forged feel this means the MX-300 offers the assistance of a game improvement irons with the shot making ability of the MP range.

Ping G15 Irons, will not let you down

The Ping G15 Irons are certainly a case of evolution not revolution and Ping have not forgotten the traits that made the G10 irons so appealing to so many people. We liked the G10 irons and we were hopeful that the Ping G15 Irons  irons would be even better. And we certainly weren’t disappointed. In our tests the G15 irons were a delight to hit. They were very forgiving right across the face and the full cavity graphics badge did its job in enhancing the feel and sound of the club at impact. For mid to high handicappers these clubs are ideal and are available in sets from 3 iron through to sand wedge. The longer irons were actually very easy to hit well and consistently but if you’re still not convinced then slipping one or two of the excellent G15 hybrid clubs in to your bag will give the golfer seeking to improve their game a very forgiving set of clubs at their disposal.
Wow, great set of irons, long and straight, and feel good face appeared in the best set of clubs. I am ready to set sail to leave the G15 X14, including the first hits, Taylor to 2.0, MIZUNO and ready to sail, they should not close the club. I 10–15 yards long, the correct target.
Take the market leading G10 irons and make them better. Mission accomplished. Ping have really brought in some great changes with the G15 irons that should see them become as wildly popular as the bestselling G10 irons were. There is an immediately noticeable improvement in both feel and forgiveness and they are easy to hit through the set. If you do struggle a bit with the longer irons then bringing in one of the top notch G15 hybrids should do the trick.

Tiger starts well

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Twenty months later, Dustin Johnson finally hit the drive he wanted at Pebble Beach. Ten years later, Tiger Woods must have wondered what kept him away from the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Woods was five shots to par out of the lead, a solid start to his PGA Tour season. He had six birdies in a 4-under 68 at Spyglass Hill, the fourth-best score on that course. Spyglass was hardest of the three courses, though not by much. The weather was so pure that all three courses played about one shot under par.

Charlie Wi was over at Monterey Peninsula and had a shot at 59 without ever knowing it. Wi was 8 under after a tap-in birdie on the 13th hole, and needed only three birdies in the last five holes. Trouble is, he had no idea the Shore Course was a 70. He made one more birdie and had a 9-under 61.
“I was looking at the scorecard like, ‘What’s the par here?’ I did not know it was a par 70,” Wi said. “That 59 never crossed my mind. Not once.”
Joining them was former U.S. Amateur Danny Lee, who holed a bunker shot for eagle at No. 2 and holed out from the 11th fairway with a wedge for another eagle to match Johnson at 9-under 63.
Johnson is turning into his generation’s “Prince of Pebble.” He won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in consecutive years, and then had a three-shot lead at Pebble in the U.S. Open two years ago until he shot 82 in the final round. On the third hole of that round, he hit driver left into the bushes for a lost ball and made double bogey.

Tiger Woods: Fee influenced schedule

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Tiger Woods acknowledged Tuesday that being paid an appearance fee played a significant role in deciding to open his 2012 season in the Middle East instead of California, where he had traditionally started his golf year.

Woods, who has played in Dubai on six occasions, is making his debut at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which begins Thursday at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

The tournament purse of $2.7 million is less than half of what is being offered this week on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, but only slightly more than what Woods is believed to be receiving just for showing up here, 12 time zones away.
Asked if the payment of appearance fees influences his scheduling decisions, Woods said, “I’d have to say yes, it certainly does. That’s one of the reasons why a lot of the guys who play in Europe, they do play in Europe, and they do get paid. I think the only tour that doesn’t pay is the U.S. Tour.”

The PGA Tour prohibits the payment of appearance fees. While the subject is not officially discussed among European Tour officials, it is a widely accepted practice. It is perhaps the biggest reason this tournament has attracted the best field of the year to date.
Woods will play the first two rounds in Abu Dhabi with world No. 1 Luke Donald and No. 3 Rory McIlroy. The pairing will start at 7:40 a.m. local time Thursday (10:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday night ET) and at 12:05 p.m. local time Friday (3:05 a.m. ET.)
In addition to Donald, McIlroy and Woods, who is ranked 25th in the world, the tournament has each of the top four players in the Official World Golf Ranking — No. 2 Lee Westwood and defending champion Martin Kaymer (No. 4). In all, six of the top 10 and 11 of the top 25 are in the field.
